NEW GENERATION MEC AERIAL WORK PLATFORMS
The MEC aerial work platform brand is well known and respected in the Rental business. Contractors and industrial users have praised its quality, functionality and reliability for more than 30 years. Until 2001, MEC scissor lifts were built in Wisconsin by Mayville Engineering Company. In 2002, two California entrepreneurs Jim Tolle and Craig Braun, (who own and operate a successful aerial lift parts business:
Equipment Parts
Wholesale) finalized a deal with Mayville to purchase the existing
MEC Scissor Lift Division.
Tolle and Braun set up the New Generation MEC production facility in buildings vacated by UpRight, Inc. in Selma, California. “We started the new production process with a thorough review of all past warranty claims and customer inquiries and concerns. After all changes were made, an extensive testing program was implemented before products were released for production.”
Ten of the twelve models that we now are producing carry the same model numbers of former Mayville products, but the New Generation machines are definitely “new and improved and continue to carry on the MEC reputation”, Tolle emphasizes. The Mid-Narrow
2633ES and the Rough
Terrain 3772RT are completely new
models that were never part of the original Mayville line.
In 2006, MEC added to its product offerings with the introduction of TH60 and TH80 Telescopic Handlers. The Telehandlers have 6,000 pound (2722 kg) and 8,000 lb. (3629 kg) capacities and both offer lifting heights of 41.5 ft. (12.6 m).
Jim Tolle, president of MEC, told AMERICAN LIFT AND HANDLERS magazine in Oct. 2006 that he was very pleased with the company’s ability to enter this entirely new market and to be up and running so quickly. “The new Telehandlers look and perform really well, “ he reported. “The new MEC telescopic handlers are sleek and fast. With a travel speed of 21.1 mph (34 kph) they move around job sites quickly and are equipped with all the tough performance specifications that rental companies and their customers demand.”
Tolle points out that its Telehandlers are being well received. The low boom mount is different from that of most of our competitors. While sitting in the operator station with the fork down or raised, visibility is still 360 degrees. While increasing visibility, there is no sacrifice in power. Productivity starts with the reliable, turbo charged, Deutz 4 cylinder Diesel engine. The joystick multi-tasks – controlling all boom functions. The thumb controlled proportional roller controls boom extension, boom lift and fork tilt. The ergonomically designed console features easy to see function indicators, switches and dials.
“When most manufacturers are directing their efforts at aggressively removing cost and ultimately cheapening their machines, MEC is concentrating on reducing service calls and keeping machines up and running,” says Tolle. “While others are removing metal, MEC prides itself on building units that will have a long product life for the Rental Store Owners and feel strong to the Operators that use the product on construction job sites or in industrial applications.”
The Sales Strategy for the New Generation MEC Aerial Work Platforms company is to offer its products only through MEC Dealers in protected territories. “Customer inquiries for machine purchases are forwarded to our dealers,” Tolle emphasizes.
At MEC our criteria is simple, Tolle explains: Keep the
scissors operation, functionality and reliability as primary objectives. MEC engineers have spent countless hours developing products that require less servicing, less energy to operate, produce less noise and provide many years of reliable service.
